With alabaster, aluminum, and copper wire, I explore the tenuous link between strength and vulnerability in very different mediums.
I develop edges and forms to emphasize mass and strength, to provide rhythm and movement, to introduce tension or accentuate softness.
"Martin works primarily in biomorphic form, her lines suggestive of human and animal form. Aggressively polished stone describes softness in the natural world. Aluminum and copper contrast their mass and surface with the vitality of line moving through space." Lincoln Mudd, Curator, "Discipline of Edge", Schlesinger Center, Fisher Art Gallery, 2012
